Franki has been involved in the auto industry since 1990, when she joined Pro Formance Driving Events and Motorsports, a national ride and drive company and sister organization to Arizona’s only  CART professional Indy Car Team fielding driver Scott Pruett at the time. There, she worked directly for the owners, who were experts in the field of automotive events and included racing names like Breedlove and Unser.  She then spent 18 years at Firebird International Raceway, working directly for NHRA Funny Car legend and track owner Charlie Allen, who originally brought the Bob Bondurant school from California to Arizona.

Since leaving Firebird Raceway in 2013, Buckman has been a media and event consultant to a myriad of brands and companies in the automotive industry, including Ford, Chevrolet, Toyota, Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, Lucas Oil Dragboat Racing Series, Harley Davidson, Napa Auto Parts and more. Most recently she worked for an Omnicom-owned advertising agency, working on Chevrolet Tier 2 advertising campaigns in multiple southwest markets including the Phoenix area.  An Arizona native, she currently resides in Chandler with her husband, a former racer himself and second-generation Indy car crew chief and mechanic. Buckman’s sons also entered the motorsports industry and raced at an early age; her oldest son is still an active racecar driver today.

Mike McGovern is closing in on 33 years with the Bondurant High Performance Driving School, almost 20 of those as Chief Instructor. He started in the late 1980s, when the school was located at Sears Point in beautiful Sonoma, California, he took a two-year hiatus as he moved to the Carolinas to pursue a full-time ride of the southeast’s many dirt-oval bullrings, and returned to the school in the early ‘90s, moving to Phoenix in the process.

His trademark hard-work ethic and deep interest in the continued success of the Bondurant School assured his quick rise to the position of Chief Instructor, and currently has a dozen full-time employees under his charge. McGovern is well-versed in the entire range of classes that comprise the Bondurant curriculum, and is an integral part in the formation of new classes, helping the School to remain one of the finest of its kind in an increasingly competitive arena.

He now leads the training of several current and potential NASCAR drivers that frequent the Phoenix, Arizona Bondurant facility. Having sat right seat with the likes of Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin, as well as Kurt and Kyle Busch, McGovern offers a rarified level of personalized instruction and has helped many a topflight driver to continue to improve.

A native of Michigan, Rob’s first taste of racing started in the early nineties when he started his racing career driving Formula cars. With his goal the CART IndyCar Series, the next seven years saw Rob compete and collect several victories and podiums. His racing resume includes Shifter Karts, Formula Fords, the SCCA Formula 2000 Pro Series, as well as the IMSA Barber Dodge Pro Series. His high performance driving experience spans over 20 years and includes multiple racing platforms such as IROC stock cars and GTS SportsCars.

Rob began instructing at the Bondurant School in 2010. Now a lead instructor, he finds gratification in teaching the Forza Grand Prix Road Racing classes, Advanced Road Racing and Formula Mazda programs to aspiring racers. He is also a lead driver on the IMSA Bondurant Tudor SportsCar Championship Safety Car and Hot Lap program at all of the sanctioned IMSA Tudor SportsCar races in North America, as well as a lead instructor on the Hyundai Driver Development programs at the Hyundai California Proving Grounds in Mojave, CA.

“The most rewarding part of my job is being able to see the students enjoy a new experience and seeing dreams come true,” said Will Parker. Parker is an instructor at the Bondurant High Performance Driving School and a racer. He began instructing at the Bondurant’s SuperKart School in 1996 while attending Arizona State University and became an instructor in the car school after graduation.

Will started at the Bondurant School as a part-time parts runner, general mechanic, and karting instructor, but that all changed one day when Bob Bondurant took him for a trip in his helicopter and asked him to move from the kart school to the cars. “He asked me what my plans were after graduation,” said Parker. “I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, but he asked me to stay as a full-time instructor, and here I am today.”

Parker loves his job as an instructor because of the varied backgrounds of the students that attend the classes. “You get to meet a lot of interesting people and hear their stories,” he said.

Will instructs many of the different types of classes, but his favorite to teach is the Grand Prix Road Racing class, which is offered for three or four days. “I find it really fulfilling to see the students progress over the length of the course. They learn new skills quickly in a sport that is pretty difficult,” Will remarked. Parker best describes his job as fun, fulfilling, and, at times, eye opening.

Parker currently instructs courses full-time at the Bondurant School and races shifter karts in his spare time, staying in touch with his racing roots. He hopes to do more off-road racing in the future. According to Parker, racing and instructing are two facets to the sport that bring so much fun into his life, and he could not live without either

“I was the only kid in third grade reading the F1 racing report about Mario Andretti,” says William Hawkins. Hawkins is an instructor at the Bondurant High Performance Driving School and a racer. At a young age he wanted to go to Europe and race F1 and then he fell in love with Indy car racing. Hawkins says he also realized that open wheel racing in the United States is not as popular as it is in Europe.

Hawkins has raced in many different vehicles, different series, and different states. He takes that well-rounded racing experience and applies it each day as an instructor. “I have worked with so many cool people as an instructor here (at Bondurant); I am thankful for all my fellow instructors and the experience the school offers to everyone!” Hawkins said about his 10-year history at the School. He emphasizes the bond the instructors share as critical to being successful.

A degree from Portland State University in Business Administration is what caught the attention of a hiring manager for Hawkins to be an instructor in the first place. Hawkins sent his resume to many of the driving schools in the country for a marketing position. He had so much racing experience that the Jim Hall Karting School in Ventura, California, called him to be an instructor. After a year in California, Hawkins brought his knowledge of karting to Bob Bondurant in 1997 to launch the Bondurant SuperKart School. “It was a great opportunity to work with Bob and build a great school,” said Hawkins.

Hawkins is currently engaged in instructing all the courses at the Bondurant School, as well as pursuing sportscar and off-road driving opportunities.

Tyler’s racing aspirations started at a very young age, his love for the sport had a simple start by going with his father, to a local indoor go karting track. The karts were not very fast so it helped Tyler develop a smooth driving technique in order to maintain momentum through the corners. Over the years that technique still shines through in whatever wheel he gets behind.

After an outing to the newly built world class racing facility in Tooele, Utah formerly know as Miller Motorsports Park, where Tyler received a high speed hot lap experience from one of the tracks professional drivers, a fire of passion was lit in Tyler.

From that point on he decided to take the steps in pursuing a career as a professional race driver. He has since raced everything from 125 shifter karts, and been ranked among the top drivers in the country, to open wheel formula cars and GT cars.

Everyday he continues gaining knowledge and experience in all sorts of different vehicles and in all sorts of different driving scenarios, from slow mobility off road driving and off road racing, tactical maneuvers, and of course the wheel to wheel road racing skills he started developing before he could legally drive.
