INSTRUCTOR – AUSTIN ROBISON

Austin RobisonAlthough originally trained as a world class skier and winner of two Nevada State championships, Reno native and decade-long Bondurant School of High Performance Driving senior instructor Austin Robison realized in short order that motorsports was instead to be his chosen profession.

Austin began his motor racing career by earning the 1993 “Rookie of the Year” honors with a 4th place finish in the L.A.R.A. Northern Nevada Sprint Car championship, and from there has never looked back. A talented driver as well as fabricator, Austin helped to design and build the Humvee race trucks that he drove at the famed Dakar Rally in 1996 and 1999. He notched finishes that would make him the highest placed American in an American vehicle at the grueling Dakar rally until 2007. Included in his off road racing resume are championships in the Best in the Desert off road racing series along with runner-up in the Score International Series Championship. Austin has also taken several class wins and podium finishes in Baja along with winning the Baja 2000, the longest Baja race in History. Most recently Austin earned the BITD 7300-class championship in the LaRoza Racing Ford Ranger.

In addition to his off road racing prowess, Austin has also competed in pavement racing, including stints in the NASCAR Speed Truck series. Robison has also competed in several D1 and Formula D drift events with Dunlop in a turbo charged Honda S2000 and a 450 hp forced induction Megan Racing Nissan 350Z.

His coaching pre-dates his decade at Bondurant: Austin has acted as a race driver and driver coach for all the teams he has worked with, and has helped drivers and teams to realize their true potential. His previous and current coaching work has lent itself well to Austin’s instructor duties at the Bondurant School. During his tenure there, Austin has had occasion to work with several NASCAR series drivers including, David Starr, Brad Keselowski, Brian Vickers, Joey Logano, and Kyle Busch amongst others.

Austin brings a mild-mannered, methodical and detail oriented approach to the students he teaches at Bondurant. With a keen understanding of the racing business and an equally strong skill set as a race driver and coach Austin’s students benefit from his considerable experience.
