BONDURANT SCHOOL CROWNS NEIL ALBERICO WINNER OF CHAMPIONSHIP RACE SERIES Inaugural Champion Receives $35,000 Prize Package
CHANDLER, Ariz. – Driver Neil Alberico has been crowned the inaugural winner of the 2009-2010 Bondurant Championship Race Series after a weekend of tight races at the Bondurant Track at Firebird International Raceway May 22-23. The first place victory came down to the final race after a months-long battle between drivers. Alberico, a 17-year-old student from Los Gatos, Calif., finished the series with 1460 points – tying 2nd place driver Jamie Slone – but he qualified for pole during both of the weekend’s races and led wire-to-wire to collect more victories than his competition, winning 10 out of the 16 races he competed in. “Winning the Bondurant Championship Race Series was a true shock and a fantastic experience for me because it feels like the real start of my race career,” said Alberico, who got his start behind the wheel of his first go-kart at age 10 and has competed in IKF regions 7 and 11, Stars of Karting and Championship Karting International. “I joined the season late and knew I couldn’t afford any mistakes against my competition, which was very stiff. The team at Bondurant – from the instructors to the mechanics who worked on the cars – really got to know me as a driver and made the series a learning experience. I look forward to the opportunities provided in the prize package to continue establishing a name for myself in racing.” Bondurant’s Championship Race Series, which is sanctioned by ASA Racing, included 18 races over nine weekends. Alberico received a prize package valued at more than $35,000 that includes a test day in a Pro Formula Mazda prepared by World Speed Motorsports; a double header race weekend in the Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge Series; a test day in the Daytona Prototype Sports Car, the top class of car in the Grand Am Rolex Sports Car Series; and services from Finlay Motorsports’ Driver Management program. “We couldn’t have asked for a more exciting first season of the Bondurant Championship Race Series and are happy to see Neil receive this valuable first-place prize package that will help him take his racing career to the next level,” said Alan Rudolph, vice president at the Bondurant School. “The drivers all competed with amazing heart and skill during each race, and we look forward to the next talented batch of racers for the 2011 race season.” With the success of the inaugural race series season, Bondurant has created their first-ever Bondurant Driver Search – a two-day shootout October 4-5, 2010, that will focus on media interaction, sponsor interviews and various driving exercises in Corvettes and Formula Mazdas on two different race tracks. The grand prize winner of the Driver Search will be awarded a full-season free ride in the 2011 Bondurant Championship Race Series. As the runner-up in the race series, Slone earned a prize package valued at $9,000 that includes a free test day in a Pro Formula Mazda prepared by World Speed Motorsports as well as a fan appreciation day for 10 people at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. Slone caught the racing bug in 2005 when he started kart racing and began road racing cars in 2006. He has participated in Grand-Am KONI Challenge events, the inaugural Mustang Challenge series, NASA, SCCA Club, and National and Pro series events in both Formula Cars and Sedans. Alan McCallum took 3rd place with 1395 final points and received a two-day Advanced Formula Car Racing Course at the Bondurant School worth $3,895.
